This is the excellent book by Lawrence Butterfield, some of you will remember Lawrence
from his time working at Fairfield Hospital, He started as a porter and made his
way to senior nurse in mental health with Tees and North East Yorkshire NHS, He now
work as Social Inclusion Lead for Middlesbrough Council. Lawrence's book is very
easy to read, it is if he is talking to you rather than you reading printed pages,
The book includes a great piece about his time at Fairfield Hospital . Lawrence takes
us from his youth in the North East of England, growing up amongst the industry of
the 1960’s /70’s, through his time at Fairfield Hospital and living locally, he
is very honest in telling us of his own 3 months off work through stress and depression.
He talks of the joy he felt going to Chelsea Football club to attend a ceremony
in 2006 , Lawrence had been nominated at the CSIP Positive Practice Awards and had
been highly commended for the leadership in promoting anti stigma and discrimination.
He received a standing ovation. Lawrence has written for The Gazette and has been
on radio trying to get his message across. He has worked so hard to promote anti
stigma in all forms of mental illness for many years and continues to do so. Do not
